How do you tell a child
With a twinkle in the eye
That life isn’t pink elephants
And yellow daffodils
How do you tell a child
Reaching out with hands
That life isn’t pony rides
And unending carousels
How do you tell a child
Toddling towards the light
That life isn’t fairy dusts
And singing bumbling dwarves
When a twinkle is a tiny spark
Reaching out to nothingness
The tunnel leading
towards a train’s headlight
With a twinkle in the eye
That life isn’t pink elephants
And yellow daffodils
How do you tell a child
Reaching out with hands
That life isn’t pony rides
And unending carousels
How do you tell a child
Toddling towards the light
That life isn’t fairy dusts
And singing bumbling dwarves
When a twinkle is a tiny spark
Reaching out to nothingness
The tunnel leading
towards a train’s headlight
