Fabulista confesses: I am in LVOE with Tadao

In an ever-changing world, tastes and demands get updated at a frequency that puts the wind to shame. However, we can always depend on the microcosmic domains of fashion and style to help us curb with the deficiencies of reality.

Enter Louis Vuitton, one of my in-laws. They have made soft launches of their latest Damier Graphite collection and I have my eye on a very urban, very functional tote – meet the Tadao urban tote.

The stylish tote is office-smart for the day and maintains a level of elegance, classy enough for the night out at the pub or lounge. Perfection for the professional.

P.S. Tadao is named after the famous Japanese architect, Tadao Ando. His style of critical-regionalism had won him accolades and awards, including the acclaimed Pritzker Architecture Prize in 1995. You can find out more about him here.

Fabulista Says: It's a Beautiful World!

Fabulista Thanks: One’s Fabulous Mentors

It’s a day for the world to say what they normally couldn’t in the busyness of their lives.

It’s teachers’ day tomorrow and Fabulista wants to express one’s gratitude to all the mentors who had touched one’s life and left an indelible mark – for better or for worse.
  • Ms Gomez and Mrs Kwok – for bringing out the Englishperson in me.
  • Ms Soonam – who illuminated the language into an art form; literature.
  • Mr Seah – that Math can be fun and witty.
  • Mdm Chia – mother tongue is different from mother’s tongue.
  • Ms Tan – that I can do more than just draw and the pencil is an extension of my fingers.
Here’s a song to them and to you, teachers, out there.

Like the Sun – Ryandan:

LIKE THE SUN LYRICS - RYANDAN

I tried to hide from you
but I failed
I tried to lie to you
but .. how I failed
and even in my darkest time
you gave me light
I never knew this kinda love could feel so right
when I’m in your arms
I find myself believe it
we could be anywhere
so I can keep on dreaming

Whenever your close to me, you’re like the sun
you feel like the sun
and everyday you telling me
I am the one
I am the one who makes you shine

And I know
whenever you want me to .. I’ll go
and even when your not with me
I feel you there
I only have to look and see
and I’ll know where
when I’m holding you
the world can stop it’s turning
you’re always gonna pull me through
and I won’t be returning

Whenever your close to me, your like the sun
you feel like the sun
and everyday you’re telling me
I am the one
I am the one who makes you shine

You’re like the sun
You keep me warm
You’re telling me

When I’m in your arms
we can be anywhere (2x)

Whenever your close to me, you`re like the sun
you feel like the sun
and everyday you’re telling me
I am the one

I am the one who makes you shine
I am the one who makes you shine

You're like the sun
You're like the sun

Fabulista Attends: The LV A/W08 Damier Graphite Launch

Bring out the champers and nibbly-things, dah-links!!

One of my in-laws is launching its latest creation – the Damier Graphite. Personally, the Fabulista does not fancy overpriced fabric (whatever you call it, its still glorified tent material). However, I have to say, the latest range in black and charcoal is truly classic urban. A refreshing break away from the taupe and Vandyke.

See you at the launch party.

Fabulista Wonders: Is Four Hours Too Long?

Just got back from collecting the Nike+ Human Race Running Kit.

Queued up for 4 hours.

When I run the race on the 31st, it's going to be over in 1 hour.

It's a very strange kind of math, 4 for 1.

Don't you think?

Fabulista Considers: Life is more than a Rubber Ducky.

The Fabulista is in a moment of weakness. It has been decided that a medical leave is necessary. As understood from the previous post; there was a time when one would have popped a pill or two and went straight off to work.

That’s not worth it now.

WTS has a way of wringing every last bit of sap from you if they can. They are sorely lacking in talent, so where they see some, they flock and draw from it like a wraith to any source of warmth or life.

And they will suck it dry.

What do they do after sucking you dry? They give you a rubber ducky, literally, a $4.50 rubber toy as a token of your stupidity for not treasuring your own life better.

This Fabulista loves oneself too much to do so for you, darling. This Fabulista has been around long enough to call a scam by its name when one is seen.

Go suck somewhere else.

Fabulista Thinks: It’s not worth it…

There was a time when I’d just pop a couple of power vitamins and couple doses of Panadol™ and go off to work when I get the flu. I thought then that it was worthwhile making it to fulfill my duty, my calling.

I have come to realize that the belief is ONE WAY. While I strive to fulfill my duty, the establishment does nothing to help. When you lapse, they ask you why you did not fulfill your duty. And when you go beyond the call of duty, they say it’s the basic expectation. No appreciation, no thanks.

Pointless. Might as well look out for self and take care of self. This is the only way here, now.

Thanks to my stint in WTS, my eyes have been opened. Strange how one’s eyes are opened in such places. The last time this happened, it was in a church, this time round it’s an institute, an establishment linked to a church.

Shame. Such a shame.

Fabulista Says: It's coming on 22 August 2008!

Fabulista Unimpressed: With the Lackluster Foreign Talent(less)

I don’t like Lee Jia Wei. But, I am curious about some of the statements she had made.

She was quoted as stating her intention to “repay Singapore” with a medal at the current Olympics, for giving her opportunities. The thing is, dear, we bought you, well, not so much you – we have no need for your carcass. We are more interested in your much-touted “capabilities” in table tennis. You will not “repay Singapore”, YOU ARE REQUIRED to PRODUCE MEDALS for Singapore! It’s your job, otherwise, you might as well be one of those labourers at the construction sites… oh wait, you would be useless there, since YOU CAN’T EVEN HOLD A FLAG PROPERLY!

Yes, I am still upset about the flag incident. Gosh, what was amazing was that she actually requested to BE THE FLAG BEARER!! Even if nobody taught you, as a volunteer, show some sincerity by looking up the prerequisites and protocol of bearing a national flag! No flag ever touches the floor! In the military, that would mean at least “7 extras” (weekend duties) or at least a thousand dollar fine in the civilian world. But that would probably mean nothing to her, judging from her Cartier rings, Swiss watch and LV bag hanging from her chubby arms – no wonder she can’t play well… lose some weight, will you? And I don’t mean the dangling ones; or maybe I do. Have you check yourself in the mirror recently? Unless you’re a sumo wrestler, fat and sports generally don’t go hand in hand.

In summary, here are the points of contention:

• Still can’t speak proper English despite being here for over 10 years;
• Still quoting Mainland laws;
• Using her private life as excuse for professional failing;
• Volunteered to bear the flag, then promptly drag it on the floor in front of an international audience.

Looking at the picture above, she’d be a better professional sportsperson if she’d:

• Spend less time:
  • o at the hair salon (a rebonding session takes about 6 hours);
  • o shopping at boutiques (oft quoted as saying Paragon and Ngee Ann City as favourites);
  • o shopping for jewelry.
• Spend more time:
  • o actually training for your professional sport.
Otherwise, please go home. NOW!

Fabulista Objects: Inappropriate Behaviour

It was time to celebrate Independence Day at WTS the other day. An alumnus who is also an authority on legal enforcement was invited as the guest of honour. Unfortunately, with his lack of savoir-faire, he was marked as a guest of dishonour.

Halfway through his already irrelevant speech, he began to proselytize his religious faith. Wearing the uniform of a nation that separates religion and state, he is a shame and a disgrace to his alumnus and not to mention his country.

One was so indignant that it was necessary to leave the premise of the celebration.

Speaking of inappropriate behaviour, the Fabulista caught up on the opening of the Beijing Olympics and was affronted by a very disturbing sight – a China maid was bearing the flag of Singapore – my shopping paradise. What was strange is what is a Chinkie-immigrant doing with the Singapore flag? The rest of the Singaporean contingent was highly visible, why was the Chink chosen? What was worse was that she was DRAGGING THE FLAG!! The flag was visibly touching the floor of the parade ground!

What a disgrace! A foreigner was dragging the national flag along the ground of her birth country.

Video proof of the hideous disrespect.

Fabulista Says: It's Beautiful!

One has not been so moved by a song for so long.

The simple honesty and purity inherent in the words to the current Olympic Games 2008 is a rare and precious gem.

It reminds us that the true meaning of the sporting meet was and always has been a celebration of the indefatigable human spirit.

Listen with your heart...

You and Me

- Performed by Sarah Brightman (洒拉 布来特慢) & 刘欢 (Liu Huan)

You and I
Heart to heart
Reside in the same village
This village of our Earth

Traveling a thousand mile
Reaching for our dreams
Meeting in Beijing

Come my friend
Reach out for me

You and I
Heart to heart
Forever from now
A family

Fabulista Switches: From Linux to XP

No, Fabulista is still a Mac OSX user. However, with the disappointing MacBook Air, one procured an Aspire One as one’s mobile PC of choice.

Nevertheless, the Linux OS is as friendly to me as a Rottweiler is to a rabbit and lacks end-user support for users (like the Fabulista). Many drivers developed and released by software and hardware companies do not have support for Linux.

The Aspire One should meet the world the next day as an eXPerienced individual.

Updated 6th August 2008:

The XP is too heavy-going for the Acer Aspire One. It keeps hanging.

I'm sending it back to have it reformatted to Linux.

Fabulista Inhales: First Lesson on Fabulousness.

To quote an 80s pop-rock song, the heat is on. This evening marks the first ACTUAL lesson in my journey on the pursuit of a Masters in Teaching Fabulousness.

Now I am juggling assignments while carrying on my career as a trainer for budding wannabes at WTS. It's not easy that the parents of the wannabes are basically difficult creatures from outer space. Okay, I am making it sound like an episode from X-Files, I exaggerate. But you would understand if you are a trainer at this elitist school as well.

Nevertheless, I shouldn't be too worried about WTS anymore – August marks the last five months in this archaic, conceited wannabe school. After that, au revoir ma douleur, au revoir la ville du mal! I am going back to my alma mater!
